EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a structured psychotherapy designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences or distressing memories. It involves recalling a traumatic memory while simultaneously focusing on bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones.
This dual focus is thought to help the brain reprocess the memory, reducing its emotional intensity and helping the individual develop healthier, less distressing associations with the event. EMDR is often used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. It is a research-backed, non-invasive approach that emphasizes the brain's natural ability to heal itself.
ART
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals process and resolve traumatic memories or emotional distress quickly, often in as few as 1–5 sessions. It combines elements of several evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and guided imagery, with the use of rapid eye movements.
During ART, clients are guided to recall a troubling memory while simultaneously following the therapist's hand movements with their eyes. This process helps rewire how the memory is stored in the brain, reducing its emotional intensity and enabling the individual to replace distressing images with more positive or neutral ones.
ART is often used to treat conditions like PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, and grief. It’s praised for being non-invasive, highly structured, and for allowing individuals to experience relief without the need to disclose every detail of their trauma.
DBT
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy that focuses on helping individuals manage intense emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD), it is now widely used for a variety of mental health conditions, such as mood disorders, self-harm, and substance use.
DBT combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices and emphasizes balancing acceptance and change. It typically involves four core modules: mindfulness (staying present and aware), distress tolerance (managing crises without impulsive reactions), emotion regulation (understanding and managing intense emotions), and interpersonal effectiveness (building healthy relationships).
DBT can be delivered in individual therapy, group skills training, or a combination of both, and it is particularly effective for individuals struggling with emotional dysregulation.
TF-CBT
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help children and adolescents (and their caregivers) recover from the effects of trauma, such as abuse, neglect, or other distressing experiences. It combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with trauma-sensitive approaches to address both the emotional and psychological impact of trauma.
TF-CBT typically involves components like psychoeducation about trauma, developing coping skills, processing traumatic memories, and restructuring unhelpful thoughts. It also emphasizes caregiver involvement to support the child’s healing process. The goal is to reduce trauma-related symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, or behavioral issues, and help children develop healthier emotional and behavioral responses.
CCPT
Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) is a therapeutic approach designed specifically for children to help them express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through play, which is their natural form of communication. In CCPT, the therapist provides a safe, supportive, and non-directive environment where the child is free to play with a variety of toys and materials that encourage self-expression and exploration.
The therapist follows the child’s lead, reflecting their emotions and behaviors, while fostering a trusting relationship. This process helps the child build self-esteem, develop problem-solving skills, and work through emotional or behavioral challenges. CCPT is often used for children dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, or family changes, and it emphasizes the child’s inner capacity for growth and self-healing.
EXRP
Exposure and Response Prevention (EXRP), also known as Exposure and Ritual Prevention, is a specialized form of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) primarily used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It involves gradually exposing individuals to thoughts, images, objects, or situations that trigger their obsessions (the "exposure") while helping them resist the urge to engage in their usual compulsive behaviors or rituals (the "response prevention").
By repeatedly facing their fears without performing the compulsions, individuals learn that the anxiety associated with their obsessions decreases over time (a process called habituation). This helps break the cycle of obsessions and compulsions, enabling individuals to live with less distress and regain control over their lives. EXRP is highly effective and is often considered the gold standard treatment for OCD.
Gottman
Gottman Therapy, developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, is a research-based approach to couples therapy designed to improve communication, resolve conflict, and build emotional connection. Based on decades of research, it focuses on key principles like understanding your partner’s inner world (building love maps), fostering appreciation (nurturing fondness), and responding positively to bids for attention (turning toward instead of away). It also teaches couples how to manage conflict constructively, repair trust, and create a shared sense of purpose.
Using tools like the “Sound Relationship House” model, Gottman Therapy helps couples develop practical skills to strengthen their bond and reduce destructive patterns. It’s suitable for relationships at any stage, addressing issues like communication breakdowns, recurring arguments, or emotional disconnection. The ultimate goal is to enhance intimacy, trust, and mutual understanding, promoting a healthier and more fulfilling partnership.
